Directing duo, Luca&Sinem, are into animation. The duo design, direct and create commercials, short films and original content and their thing is creating quirky, loveable and eccentric character designs, combined with a raw directing style. That has been the oomph in a number of commercials. But when Luca Schenato and Sinem Vardarli are not making commercials, they make short films. These have won accolades at major festivals. Their latest short film, The Brave Heart or (The day we enabled the sleepwalking protocol), is sweeping up awards.
So far it has won the audience award for best humour film at Les Nuits Magiques, an honourable mention at Los Angeles Animation Festival and Vimeo Staff Pick as well as becoming an official selection at Edinburgh International Film Festival, Animation Block NYC, London International Animation Festival, ASIFA-South Animation Conference & Festival, Cut Out Fest 10, Animage Festival, Balkanima European Animation Film Festival, Future Film Festival and Animatricks Animation Festival.
The Brave Heart is a quirky, surrealist action comedy about a diligent heart who takes a wild journey inside the body to try to sort out the problems of a hungover body.
Luca&Sinem’s first short, Fingers Tale, was selected for Atlanta Film Festival, SiggraphAsia, Anima Mundi, and screened at major film festivals around the world. It too, won, a Vimeo Staff Pick.
Their commissioned docu-short, A pistol against my head, was shortlisted for a British Animation Award.
