In June, Burger King nicked the idea of the parody airline safety video genre and launched one of its own that isn’t for an airline. The film by Buzzman had the same aim as airline safety videos – to make people attention to a message (in this case for Covid safety measures) that they would otherwise ignore.
As in most countries, Covid hit a crescendo of devastation in France then began to subside. People became confident that it was nearly over and thought they could go back to “normal life”. Covid had other ideas. The rate of infection is growing again in France (in fact, across Europe) and the country has been forced to close pubs and bars in Paris to try to subdue Covid’s aggression.
So Burger King and Buzzman are playing on this turbulence with a new version of their airline safety video parody, this time to reassure Burger King fans that the chain is adhering to Covid-19 safety guidelines. French comedy actor, Fred Testot, has returned to play the voice of the pilot and the film’s humour includes a restaurant caught in “new Covid turbulence” and an airoplane attempting to use the drive-thru.
The campaign is running on TV in France and in social and promotes Burger King’s drive-thru, delivery and click and collect.
