Thor: Ragnarok director, Taika Waititi’s, new teaser for the film is already nearing 2 million views after it was uploaded on Valentine’s Day (rather good timing considering the short features Thor star, Chris Hemsworth, and his biceps).
The film is the sequel to an earlier teaser, a Thor mockumentary also by Waititi, that screened originally only to Marvel film fans at San Diego Comic Con in July 2016 – but ended up on Twitter and YouTube. That film introduced Marvel fans to what Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was doing while the rest of the avengers were off battling each other in Captain America: Civil War.
Thor needed me time, he reveals in the film, so he moved to Australia and began flat-sharing with a bloke called Daryl. Because he’s “not doing much right now,” he visits a kindergarten, gets Daryl to write an email to Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) about his relationship problems with Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) and chats to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about his problem of always ending up wearing cut-offs.

In the second short film, Thor is demonstrating many of the features of the worst flatmate ever, beginning with that time-honoured source of flat-spats, paying the rent.
The films’ humour is unmistakably Waititi, as those who’ve followed his awarded work, Blazed and Tinnyvision for NZTA, watched Air New Zealand’s The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made and been fans of What We Do in the Shadows will no doubt have noticed.
The director, represented for commercials by Curious Films in Australasia and Hungry Man in Europe and the US, also wrote and directed Hunt for the Wilderpeople. That film, which was co-produced by Curious Films, made its debut at the opening weekend of Sundance and went on to win worldwide cinema distribution, also won seven Moas at the New Zealand Film Awards on February 18.
