When you’ve released a massive, cinematic production with Ridley Scott it seems fitting that you air it during the Oscars. Sadly, only the 60-minute cutdown will be seen during the Academy Awards broadcast on February 24. The full film is four minutes long. It will run on Hennessy’s site during the Oscars.
The commercial, The Seven Worlds, was created by DDB Paris, to complement the idea that Each drop of Hennessy X.O. is an Odyssey. Of course it’s a tad pretentious. Luxury brand ads usually are. But it’s also a magnificent production. Scott directed Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator, as well as the six-minute film for Turkish Airlines that ran as a 60-second cutdown during the Super Bowl, and was his first commercial in nearly two decades.
The Seven Worlds is a surreal drama threaded into a sci-fi odyssey, a creative interpretation of each of the seven tasting notes of X.O. – Sweet Notes, Rising Heat, Spicy Edge, Flowing Flame, Chocolate Lull, Wood Crunches and ultimately, Infinite Echo. It also pays homage to the Oscars with a scene that includes colossal golden figure similar to the Oscars award statue.
“I was attracted to this project because I was inspired by the potential for art and entertainment to bring this story to life,” Ridley Scott commented.
“Hennessy has a great product, and I was lucky enough to have the freedom to interpret this and create something amazing. I think people will be stunned when they see the film.”
CGI-created VFX star in the RSA Films production, for which MPC deserves applause. Scott previously worked with MPC on Alien, The Martian and Blade Runner. The film’s score was created by Daniel Pemberton, who also worked with Scott on All the Money in the World and The Counselor.
“When we embarked on this adventure, we dreamed of creating a film that is truly different. But even in our wildest dreams, we did not imagine we would be going to so many incredible new worlds,” noted Alexander Kalchev, executive creative director at DDB Paris.
“Together with Hennessy and Ridley Scott, we hope to have achieved a new benchmark in advertising.”
