In March this year Exit director, Bonnie Moir, highlighted International Women’s Day with a provocative film, Dear Michelle, a video letter to Michelle Jordan (the female version of Michael Jordan) from ten-year-old Grace, a budding basketballer. Michelle is the celebrity athlete that inspires her to keep trying. It aimed to spark conversation around representation and celebrate the power and passion female role models bring to the world of sports.
It achieved that and more. Bonnie Moir has been signed to Reset Content L.A. for commercial representation, joining industry heavyweights such as Exit’s Garth Davis, David Fincher and Johnny Hardstaff.
Dear Michelle is not the first time that Moir has attracted the world’s attention with her work.
Her short film, Bridge, premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2017 and was programmed as an official selection at international festivals that include Maryland Film Festival, Hollyshorts and the Melbourne Queer Film Festival. This provocative film follows Dan, a closeted homosexual, who goes to a cruising area under a bridge to confront his darkest secret. It isn’t until he meets a younger and more confident Paul that he realizes his biggest fear is just the beginning of something much closer to home.
Moir has been nurtured and developed by Exit as a director, mentored by fellow Exit director, Garth Davis.
She was involved in Davis’ Oscar-nominated feature film debut, Lion, (2016) and was his director’s assistant on the feature, Mary Magdalene (2018) starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix. In 2018 also, she worked on the upcoming BBC series, The Cry (2018) under Exit director, Glendyn Ivin, and completed her second short film, Bird.
She has recently completed her short film, We’re Not Here, which was executive produced by John Logan (Skyfall), will be released later in the year.
Moir’s work is backed by her classical training and enriched by her ability to elicit compelling performances as well as the insightfulness and sensitivity she injects into them.
