MullenLowe Group UK has hired Ewan Paterson as its first Group Chief Creative Officer. He will work alongside Group chief executive officer, Jeremy Hine and the recently appointed Group chief strategy officer, Ayesha Walawalkar.
Paterson comes to MullenLowe with a very impressive history. He joins the IPA Effectiveness Network of the Year 2020 from his role as founding partner and Executive Creative Director of BBH Sport in London (2014 – 2020), returning to BBH after leading the creative turnaround at DDB Chicago as chief creative officer, 2010 – 2013. Prior to Chicago, Paterson was creative lead at CHI (2005 – 2010)
and DDB London (2002 – 2005), where he filled his mantelpiece with international awards.
At BBH, Paterson led the awarded work for Samsung’s partnership with England Rugby and GB Olympic team featuring comedian, Jack Whitehall. He was also responsible for innovative work for the betting brand, bwin, with advertising campaigns, such as Who Stole The Cup? and The Race, that consumers could actually bet on. He made his mark as CCO at DDB Chicago with a string of highly awarded work, including Contract the Rainbow for Skittles and chaosinyourtown.com for State Farm Insurance, which was the first use of Google Street View in an interactive ad campaign.
At CHI he won a haul of British Arrows Golds with the Brains campaign for Britvic’s drink, Drench; and as creative lead at DDB London the agency won the Cannes Grand Prix for Volkswagen Cops.
Jose Miguel Sokoloff, the acting CCO of MullenLowe in London, reverts to his previous role as Global CCO.
“MullenLowe has enjoyed a strong 2020 against the odds, and we’re determined to raise the creative bar even higher, right across the Group. With his long record of creative turnaround and obvious appetite for ideas beyond advertising, Ewan is the ideal partner on that journey. We’re delighted that a fellow creative entrepreneur is joining the gang in London,” commented Sokoloff.
Paterson stated, “Creative, media and CX in one team with a great client list was the attraction. All the people I met made it a no-brainer.”
Jeremy Hine added, “Ewan will be a fantastic addition to the team. Bringing in someone of his calibre and experience clearly demonstrates our creative ambitions. His passion for the work is infectious.”
