A gun shop owner is asked his advice about suitable weapons for hunting animals – the most powerful, one a woman can use, one for a novice. He pulls out a case which he says contains a universal weapon anyone can us, that “can even get a whale”. Inside the case is a “machine gun” made from various disposable plastic objects and packaging.
Well done, Possible.
The film, by Russian agency, Possible, is for Greenpeace. Greenpeace in Russia is calling on to people to stop plastic pollution and is launching a petition to the Minister of National Resources in Russia to create legislation that will limit the usage of disposable plastic and to make sure that it is actually enforced.
“Despite the fact that all actual weapons sales in Russia are heavily regulated, we are now in the position where the weapon that can destroy the nature can easily get into the hands of ordinary people living in the biggest country in the world. The fact that millions of animals die just because we use disposable plastic is something that many people find shocking,” explained Possible creative director, Artyom Filimonov.
“Plastic bags, cups, straws and other disposable objects are weapons of mass destruction,” stated. Irina Skipor, Greenpeace Zero Waste media coordinator. “Plastic rubbish is a reason why more than a million seabirds as well as more than 100 000 sea mammals die each year. But it’s also destroying us, humans — while trying to create comfort we produce thousands of tons of plastic rubbish. With this campaign we want to change the perception that disposable plastic is harmless.”
Over 90% of all plastic ever produced hasn’t been recycled. It remains in the environment and in landfills. Now 127 countries regulate the usage of disposable plastic but more needs to be done.
