The Lab Insight and Strategy Group is set to discuss one of the most controversial topics in advertising and marketing – courage. Leading Through Courage: In Conversation with Justin Langer will reveal key findings from its 2019 The Australia Project research study this Friday, November 1, at The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne.
The event examines The Australia Project’s recent findings on how Aussies are looking within themselves, to others and to brands for the strength to step up and meet the future bravely. Event guest speaker and Australian national men’s cricket team coach, Justin Langer, will also discuss the idea of strength in vulnerability and how leaders can navigate change by embracing the unknown and championing a culture of courageousness.
The Australia Project 2019 state of the nation report tracks the values that are rising and falling in importance to Australians today using eight in-depth interviews with cultural experts, AI technology to scan over 150,000 pieces of online content, and an intensive survey of over 2,000 people.
Co-founder of The Lab, Paul Labagnara, stated, “One of the key findings from the study was the sharp rise in the need for empathy; rising 25% since last year as an important value people seek. It has become clear that people don’t feel they are being listened to, from all sides of the political and social spectrum.”
In fact, 66% of Australians feel that the country can’t keep going the way it’s going.
“We’ve had a tumultuous past 18 months. Royal commissions have lifted the lid on institutions traditionally held in high regard, and we now have much more visibility. People are left with the stark reality that those who are meant to be in public office have their own personal agenda at the top of their priorities, not that of the people,” Labagnara added.
Research from The Australian Project also revealed that Australians are feeling weighed down by key social tensions. These include everything from anxiety about the pace of life to grappling with the increasing fluidity of the structures we grew up with.
“We dived deeper into the data to explore what stresses people face, and found that it’s the parts of life that are fundamental to our everyday lives – from finances to parenting. This has helped us understand how Australia’s leaders and businesses can help,” Labagnara noted.
