It is not only Extinction Rebellion challenging the return to “normal”. Every person in the developed world was given a chance to glimpse what the world could be like during Covid lockdown. The air was cleaner, the roads were freer, life was simpler. Flora and fauna began to regain lost ground (literally as well as metaphorically. A sense of community began to regrow. Ordinary people are wondering what the world could be.
But things are going back to normal, the old “normal”. And while XR is asking people to question how normal that was, independent UK agency, Truant London, is asking people to understand that there is a second chance on offer, a chance to rewrite normal.
The agency has housed its appeal in a beautiful film set over a voiceover in the style of a Deep South preacher, his message simple truths.
The film was created before George Lloyd was killed, before the race riots erupted. These have only given its message more urgency. It could not have more weight: “Second chances, they don’t come around every day. Yet here we are, a chance to reset.”
