Uncommon Creative Studio has a thing for colouring-in. It created a series of colour-in sheets of London with illustration and animation studio, Dutch Uncle, in May, to help people keep busy during lockdown – and help to raise funds for the Florence Nightingale Foundation.
Now, following the initial branding design earlier this year, the agency has created a special edition colouring book celebrating Coventry’s unique architecture. Coventry has been named UK City of Culture for 2021 (after this was postponed in 2020 because…well, you know why). The UK City of Culture is a title awarded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport every four years to a city in the United Kingdom, with the winner hosting a year-long programme of cultural events and celebrations.
The Concrete Colouring Book is inspired by the nature of debate around Coventry’s architecture. The book aims to champion the post-war, modernist and brutalist styles found across the city’s streets by commissioning local illustrators to draw on some of its iconic buildings and their features.

Coventry City of Culture Trust and Uncommon commissioned local illustrators to draw on some of its iconic post-war buildings and features. The illustrators were commissioned with the help of the popular independent creative quarter of Coventry, FarGo Village, and each designer was chosen for their different approaches to line drawing.
The book will be sold in a local pop-up store.
