The weirdest ad since Red House’ original version in 2009 is running through the veins of social media today.
Robert Dyas wants you to shop at his UK appliance stores this Christmas. Whether you’re straight or gay.
His retail ad was released on YouTube on December 10. Perhaps, it didn’t cause enough of a fracas – Robert Dyas tweeted it on December 13. Now it’s running hot in both social and trad media.
In the 60 second ad, called We’re Robert Dyas and we’re gay. And straight. And bi…, customers and staff reveal their sexuality before touting the chain and its products.
Marcus tells that he’s gay and then lists some of his interests – going out with his friends and volleyball. He goes on to say that he also likes showing Robert Dyas’ “gay and straight customers our funky range of Christmas gifts”.
Another staff member, James, is straight. He wants you to know that “this drill would work a treat in a straight person’s home, or a gay person’s”.
The ad has an older sibling, for Red House – which is getting another 15 minutes of fame today attached to Robert Dyas’ newbie – and a new spurt of views, no doubt, on top of the 5 million it has gained already.
The ad was made in-house. Robert Dyas was founded in 1872. It has been owned by entrepreneur and former judge on Dragons’ Den, Theo Paphitis, since 2012.
