Details of what the Omnicom-IPG merger means have been released. The new holding company is led by John Wren as CEO and organised into seven core divisions.
Omnicom Advertising, its creative arm, will continue to be led by current CEO and president Troy Ruhanen. It includes TBWA, BBDO, and McCann as its three global networks. FCB will be absorbed into BBDO. DDB and MullenLowe will become part of the TBWA network. Omnicom Media, run by Florian Adamski, includes OMD, PHD, Hearts & Science, Mediahub, Initiative, and UM, and becomes the largest media organisation globally by billings.
Around 4,000 positions will be eliminated globally in addition to the 3,200 roles IPG shed this year ahead of the acquisition, and the 3,000 that Omnicom shed after announcing the deal last year. The total number of eliminated positions will be around 10,000, or roughly 8% of the combined organisation’s 2024 headcount.
The Omnicom Advertising Collective will include boutique and specialist agencies, The Martin Agency, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Lucky Generals, Zimmerman, Mercury, GMR, Carmichael Lynch, GSD&M, Grabarz & Partners, Antoni, Lola, Africa, Serino Coyne, Bright Red Agency, and Merkley & Partners. Alma (which was part of the DDB network), Dieste, TMA, Agency 720, and Platinum Rye Entertainment will also remain intact.
In Omnicom Oceania, DDB and FCB NZ will merge to form McCann NZ. DDB Australia will be absorbed into Clemenger.
McCann New Zealand will be run by Priya Patel and Paul Wilson. Clemenger CEO, Lee Leggett, becomes chief customer officer at Omnicom Oceania. DDB Group CEO Sydney, Sheryl Marjoram, and DDB Group CEO Melbourne, Mike Napolitano, become Clemenger co-CEOs.
Clemenger Wellington and FCB Wellington will become McCann Wellington, operating as part of McCann Group NZ. Local leadership for McCann Wellington will be announced soon.
Within Omnicom Media Group, OMD, PHD, Initiative, MediaHub, UM, and Hearts & Science will remain distinct businesses.
Matty Burton had been regional CCO of DDB since the beginning of the year. Stephen de Wolf was made CCO of Clemenger in June.
