Ted Min’s work stands out. At times it has humour. At times it is exuberant; at times, provocative. Always, it has a point of difference. If his body of work has a common characteristic, it’s his fusion of colours and injection of joy into everyday moments.
Min has joined Sam I Am, bringing his individuality in fashion and advertising photography to its roster. The Melbourne photographer was born in South Korea and has shot for fashion brands such as Mainbooth and Romance Was Born. He has exhibited work in both Australia and South Korea and his most recent photo series were featured in publications, 10 Magazine Australia and Kingkong Magazine. In 2019, he won the Portfolio Award at the Centre for Contemporary Photography and was a finalist in the IRIS Awards at the Perth Centre of Photography.
Min commented, “I’m inspired by artists who bring a great level of irony and humour to their work, such as Thomas Mailaender, Juergen Teller and Ray Cook. I feel my strongest styles come from finding unreal moments and turning them into something relatable. I enjoy reducing the distance between everyday life and the joy it brings for brands that often portray exclusivity; whether that be through the use of high-art, high-fashion, painting references or religion.
“I’m very excited to be a part of Sam I Am. I love the team’s energy and enthusiasm – you are all very kind and nice. We’ll make great work together.”
Sam I Am founder, Samantha Simpson, added “Ted is a breath of fresh air in fashion and advertising photography. I love to see authentic play come to life in each and every one of his pictures. There is a depth to the work that draws you in and tickles your spirit. He’s smart, well researched and inspiring. I instantly wanted to be a part of his gang.”
