Unmitigated, greedy corporate violence. Greenpeace and Studio Birthplace present MoneyTrees, a cinematic two-minute “music video” film that exposes the absurd destruction of rainforests and other natural habitats driven by billions in investment from unregulated banks and corporations. Underlining the visual orgy of violence is a specially composed gritty rap soundtrack by greedyBoy, aka Joseph Wills.
It’s not polite. It’s not understated. It’s not forgettable. It demands not to be ignored.
Moneytrees, that launched to mark International Biodiversity Day, is part of a multi-year, international campaign, Defund Nature Destruction Now, by Greenpeace. The campaign aims to urge governments to stop the funding of nature destruction and ensure money goes towards protecting and restoring the world’s ecosystems.
“Each year, we witness the loss of more of our last remaining nature. Who’s to blame? Giant corporations destroying nature for industrial agriculture, beef, soy, palm oil, feed, timber, paper and mining…and maximum profit.
“Greedy corporations don’t value what we value. They are destroying nature’s treasures making the climate crisis and biodiversity collapse worse. Banks and finance Institutions provide billions so these businesses continue to operate without accountability. We need government action now,” Studio Birthplace stated.
The campaign is running worldwide with the participation of many Greenpeace offices including Brazil, Indonesia, The Netherlands and others. In tandem with the film and digital assets, real-life demonstrations and actions were organised to gain attention.
