In December last year, Columbia Sportswear CEO, Tim Boyle, offered the company’s assets to anyone who could find the edge of Earth. The ferociously funny dig by adam&eve\TBWA at Flat Earthers and incentive to get outdoors has come to an end.
The campaign, Expedition Impossible, has done a stellar job for the brand, including winning nine Cannes Lions (a Titanium and the Grand Prix in Brand Experience & Activation among them), and a Grand Clio and Best of Discipline at The One Show.
To announce the finale of his Expedition Impossible, Boyle has recorded a video, supposedly in the Arctic tent he has been staying for the eight-month duration of the campaign. Surprise?! No one succeeded in proving that Earth is flat, but to three submitters Boyle awards special prizes – Herb, the stuffed beaver; a snow-weather clock; and a used sled. All official submissions will receive a US$100 Columbia Sportswear gift card.
Boyle commented, “No one found the edge of the Earth, and I’m so relieved we get to keep the company. The Expedition Impossible campaign really captured the adventurous spirit of Columbia. Many tried. Many failed. We appreciate the effort.”
