I agree with you – the name of this music video is unappealing to say the least. The film on the other hand, with its inventive ideas and creative devices is captivating. It was directed by Spanish filmmaker, Amanda Lago, and produced by independent production company, Lapiscina, for music artist, Fatal Tiger, to explore the struggle people face in accepting themselves.
“I wanted to recreate a chaotic environment, in which emotions and feelings are presented through an almost delirious dance. We live in an era in which we obsess over how others perceive us. This has led us to meticulously curate the way we present ourselves to the world, setting highly unrealistic expectations while still trying to come across as authentic. Fucking Down is an interpretation of how this dynamic affects us, expressed through a visual orgy of senses in what becomes an ongoing and vicious journey in understanding and accepting ourselves,” Logo commented.
The story is mysterious, its incremental movement changes to a repetitive choreography illustrating the protagonist’s learning process. She reacts differently each time, learning more about herself and leading her to predict patterns in her own behaviour and gradually accept herself.
Fucking Down is the second production directed by Lago with Fatal Tiger. Her previous works have won awards internationally, including Best Song Soundie 2017, and have been selected in several international film festivals, such as Berlin Fashion Film Festival, Fashion Film Festival Milano, LA Fashion Film Festival and Video Art and Experimental Film Festival in New York.
Lago is making a name for herself for her ability to explore emotions in films that hold people deeply. One of her earlier films, Mrs Pocheau, examined the discomfort of coming to terms with ageing, life and death, and losing people you love.
