Sometimes it IS all about the execution. AMV BBDO’s film for Smart Energy is part of a five-year campaign to install new, energy saving smart meters in every home in Britain by 2020. It aims to make people sense how much energy they use every day. So the film is a very “energetic” (quick-cut) compilation of different scenes of everyday life in which energy is being used. Visceral is an overused description for films. But this one is.
The film, directed by Simon Ratigan, builds its message around real moments that capture how frequently and freely the British population uses energy on a daily basis. The film is designed to show energy use throughout an entire year, but framed over a 24 hour period. It’s a “this is you film,” that imprints the message, “We could save enough energy to power all the homes in Cardiff, Aberdeen and Manchester … if we all got a smart meter,” under its audience’s skin.

This film is supported by two quirky 30-second ads, Meera and Sweet Ride, that show what energy savings mean on an individual level.
