Cannabis is legal in Canada. You can use it and sell it. But that freedom isn’t extended to cannabis advertising, which is restrained by harsh rules. The Cannabis Act prohibits any advertising that shows products, people, paraphernalia, the inside of a store or implies effects. On top of that, it can be very difficult to get a cannabis ad published. Meta and Google, OOH and radio channels screen it out.
Canadian cannabis chain, Stok’d, and its agency, Angry Butterfly, came up with an ingenious way to get around the laws and media filters. Next to Stok’d is a campaign promoting the stores next to Stok’d.
