Nearly 180,000 views and 9.4 Likes in 24 hours just on YouTube. Apparently, Apple can do anything in an ad to attract attention. The commercial is for the new iPhone XR, highlighting its liquid retina display.
The spot, called Color Flood, features hundreds of runners, dressed in brightly coloured coveralls running through an empty town – some performing parkour feats. All of this is underscored by London music artist, Cosmo Sheldrake’s, Come Along.
The connection to the phone is subtle. There is an Easter egg in the ad itself – the van from which the purple runners emerge has the licence plate I-XR0941, which references the iPhone XR and the time, 9.41 which Apple uses in all of its stock imagery. Only the most ardent Apple fans are likely to pick it up. The film ends with the tagline, Make room for color, and a title, liquid retina display, before the Apple logo appears.
