A lively little pangolin sweeps you up in his determination to become a Hollywood star. What a clever way to present a “save the species” cause. There is enough misery in the world and so many causes adding to it already. The standout combination of skilfully crafted character design and CG animation with a funny and heart-warming script comes from creative agency, Arnold, Blinkink & Zombie Studio and WWF.
Lin the Pangolin is a lovable animated character whose optimism, exuberance and wonderfully naïve dream work very hard for his species. The film walks the tightrope of tone and message perfectly. It highlights the urgency of the issue, introduces an animal few know about and inspires its audience in a way that’s completely new for cause advertising.
“The pangolin is kind of a funny-looking animal in real life, but it has some unique features, like its tongue and scales, that we thought would look really cool in animated form,” stated Arnold marketing director Jordan Colleran. “We also had a hypothesis that by creating such a cute, animated version of the species, we might be able to really help propel pangolins to fame. We leaned into its unusual appearance.”
The trafficking of Pangolins is a major issue, as illegal wildlife trading continues to wreak havoc on the little known mammal’s existence. While many may not have heard of a pangolin, they are one of the world’s most trafficked mammals and in the past 10 years it is estimated that over one million pangolins were poached. If this continues, they will no longer exist in our ecosystem.

The pangolin spot is running on donated broadcast and digital media, mainly in the US, as well as WWF’s digital and social channels. It is being translated into various languages for global markets.
Arnold is working on other projects featuring Lin the Pangolin, such as classroom teaching materials that promote the needs of the pangolin and teach children about conservation.
