Once you get over the fact that sports stars (we see you, Paul Skenes) are not actors, Arnold Worldwide has created an interesting extension to its Brilliantly Boring platform for PNC Bank.
The campaign, that fits into the bank’s multi-year Boring Before Brilliance series, coincides with golf’s PNC Championship, a family-focused golf tournament pairing professional players across generations. It features three athletes, professional golfer, Steve Stricker; starting pitcher, Paul Skenes; and Indycar driver, Scott Dixon.
Stricker and Skenes feature in the first commercial – a golf lesson that underlines how “thoughtful, consistent decisions drive extraordinary outcomes”. Paul’s progress through the ‘boring’ but effective approaches is being featured across NBC and Golf Channel.
The new work was preceded by a documentary-style spot in which Skenes details what it takes to be a sports star – the discipline to do the same training every day. “It’s boring, it’s mundane but it’s what it takes”, Skenes notes.
