Blinkink has added two remarkably unique directors to its roster. Samuel Mason joins the the UK and Netherlands, Isabel Garrett joins for global representation
Samuel Mason’s work is fascinating. In turn, he is fascinated with emerging technologies, and he layers his work so that it is rich in detail but not overly designed. The director and visual artist has a bent for hyperrealism, weaving narratives that captivate the viewer with their detailed storytelling and journeys that transcend this world, possessing photo-realistic qualities and blending the cinematic with the surreal. All of this makes for wonderfully unique films that strike a balance between animation and traditional filmmaking. That he grew up inspired by artists such as Terry Gilliam, Jim Henson and Yuri Norstein, is apparent in the unique worlds he creates.

His film, Colors and Shapes taken from the late Mac Miller’s mixtape, Faces, won Gold at the Clios, a Graphite Pencil at D&AD and was awarded Music Video of the Year by Shots last year. Mason has also made commercials for Honda, Spotify, Facebook and New York Times.
Isabel Garrett graduated from the prestigious National Film and Television School in London, graduating with an MA in Directing Animation. She then finessed her craft as a resident artist at Alexander McQueen’s Sarabande Foundation. Her tactile stop motion pieces straddle the line between surreal and subversive; her films combine stunning animation craft with her dark sense of humour.

Garrett’s her upcoming short film, Bod, commissioned by Sarabande, is a delicate yet avant-garde film that captures the tactile, vulnerable beauty of the characters designed by sculptor and performance artist, Daisy Collingridge. The film is set for online release on January 19 with an event celebrating the launch at Sarabande Studios in London.
She has been commissioned by Alexander McQueen, Amazon and the BBC.
