“Bravely Smart” indie, CAPE, has officially been named BetMGM’s agency of record and launched a new US campaign featuring Jon Hamm, the next chapter of BetMGM’s Make It Legendary platform.
The campaign, It Happens Here, reimagines BetMGM’s Make It Legendary platform as a place, The Legends Lounge, one that is not just a backdrop but a character that helps tell every story. The setting combines the energy of a sportsbook or casino, the exclusivity of a speakeasy, and the excitement of a Las Vegas entertainment destination.
Hamm is host and anchor for the work, bringing the sophistication and charm that has defined his career to a character grounded in masculine refinement, where the humour lives in the nuance – a pause held a beat too long, a shift in cadence, a small change in emotional gravity. The films, directed by Dave Meyers, lean into unconventional framing and unexpected camera angles, giving even the most heroic shots a wink of quirk and keeping the tone playful rather than precious.
The campaign debuted Saturday, August 29 during college football games, and additional creative will run throughout the season across TV, social, digital, out-of-home and BetMGM properties, extending into the platform’s casino vertical.
The AOR announcement caps a relationship that has been building for over two years. CAPE first began working with BetMGM in 2024, when the online gambling company was facing stiff competition from category leaders. Rather than chase bigger budgets, CAPE and BetMGM built a smarter system, one designed to compete through creative velocity rather than media weight and spend.
That thinking took shape as a creative system built for scale – a flexible base of assets that could be reconfigured into iterative films built to fill BetMGM’s calendar across the football season, casino, and other sports verticals, without sacrificing craft or consistency. The approach has already produced some of BetMGM’s most-loved work, including the responsible gambling campaign, Mullet Over, featuring three-time Hart Trophy winner and BetMGM brand ambassador Connor McDavid; as well as the popular Lucky Doe spot for its online Borgata Casino brand.
CAPE was built on a simple distinction: the difference between agencies that sell and agencies that solve. “Selling starts with the agency’s offering, but solving starts with the client’s business. That focus empowers us to create the work that drives the outcomes they need,” stated Casey Ritts, co-founder & CEO of CAPE. “Sometimes the answer is a campaign. Sometimes it leads us to the power of the unexpected.”
“We’re not interested in dropping one-off campaigns into the void,” added Pete Gosselin, CAPE co-founder and CCO. “We’re building a creative engine that makes an impact and compounds over time. Showing up consistently with fresh, high-taste content is how a brand actually stays modern.”
