In every country in the world, the Covid years have caused mental health issues to rise. Canada is no exception. Cossette and production company, les enfants, have made a sad little film about the monotony of isolation. The effect of isolation is obvious. The protagonist has been knocked sideways – literally, in the spot’s the visual metaphor. The commercial for the Government of Quebec MSSS is to encourage people to use its helpline.
The protagonist’s loneliness and loss in thought are accentuated by director, Oliver Staub, and cinematographer, Jonathan Decoste’s use of depth of field. A half-dream, half-nightmare soundscape accentuates the daily loop, the idea of monotony.
