Romcoms are a girl thing, but YouTube Original’s SideSwiped has all it needs to be an online sensation with half of the world’s population. Those assets begin with Australian comedy director, Daniel Reisinger.

It’s a coming of “ageing” story – a girl magnet plot – in which birthday girl, Olivia (Carly Craig), realises she has been swiping left on life (with a little help from her mum (Rosanna Arquette) who hasn’t and sister (Chelsea Frei) who’s caught in the throes of a seven-year itch). She goes on a Tinder rampage and has a go at dating all 252 of her matches.

The series was written by Craig and is based (according to its PR) on a true story. Maybe part of the attraction is that the film is not too far from the truth? It’s certainly not too far from the truth girls think, or fear, is out there.

Sideswiped has lined up some rather appealing lures as Olivia’s dates, including Jason Sudeikis, Rosanna Arquette, Tyler Posey, Peter Gallagher, Bryan Greenberg, Thomas Lennon, Charles Michael Davis, Christopher McDonald, and Rick Springfield.

The trailer launched on June 28. The series launches on July 25.
