DoorDash knows that many of its delivery people, or Dashers, are part-timers with ambitions that might include beings a fashion designer, music artist, entrepreneur…or filmmaker. Dasher, Özgür Seyben, dreamed of being a filmmaker. So DoorDash made it happen.
Seyben has written a branded film, Alien: The Other, that will be shown at the Tribeca Festival. Seyben’s script was chosen out of a pool of scripts written by Dashers. The film is a part of DoorDash’s Beyond the Dash program, which accelerates the personal passions of its delivery people.

DoorDash partnered with Tribeca Studios, Chromista, and director, Patricia Riggen, to make the thriller, with Seyben was involved in the entire production process from start to finish. In its blog, DoorDash explaines that “Özgür is originally from Turkey, where he was a filmmaker and professor of filmmaking. He and his family immigrated to the US in 2017 and settled in Twin Falls, Idaho. Özgür’s passion for filmmaking was put on hold while he worked in a yogurt factory. To supplement his income, Özgür began dashing and loved the freedom and flexibility it gave him.”

The film comes from a personal place. Seyben and his family were called aliens when they immigrated to the US. To a child, who saw himself as a person like any other, this seemed strange and the film is built around this theme. It’s the story of a wealth woman who is awoken by the sounds of an intruder and walks into a nightmare that belongs to a child alien exploring a new place. Their fear is mutual.
