US creative agency, es muy good, has taken Kalshi, the platform that allows traders to buy and sell contracts on the outcomes of real-world events, on a very wild ride this year – from cryptic-madness to history-madness to humour-madness. And each vastly different campaign has held its audience in its hands.
The newest work, The Weathermen is an epic – a four-minute story about a weatherman who can’t predict the weather with any reliability and his rival who gets it right time after time. And the humour-madness? Well there’s a sheer pantyhose masked stealth investigation, an oracle and a fortune-teller with a tiny pony, a kidnapping and the Kalshi app:
The film stars American comedians and actors, Shane Gillis an Danny McBride, plus Kenyan-British actor and stuntman, Deep Roy (who played all 165 Oompa Loompas in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), as the fortune-teller. It was written by McBride and directed by Randy Krallman, who began his career as an agency creative and is represented by Smuggler overseas and Good Oil in Australia. Krallman’s fame as a comedy director was founded on his MTV promos. More recently, he was instrumental in the success of Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical, directing the shorts, Therapist, and Advertising Ruins Everything, and in the last year he has directed Bear Meets Eagle on Fire’s Scamageddon commercials for Telstra, starring Steve Buscemi as a galactic overlord intent on scamming Australia.
