Taika Waititi, the New Zealand writer and director who has found fame (and no doubt, fortune) in Hollywood, will join his production company, Hungry Man, and agency, Wieden + Kennedy to produce Coca-Cola’s Christmas campaign.
Waititi’s flair for offbeat comedy, his most recent film, Jojo Rabbit, his work on Thor: Ragnarok and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, and his experience in making awarded and applauded ads will all add their various contributions to this year’s entry in the other unofficial ad contest of the year (the Super Bowl owning the title (unofficially). One of Waititi’s recent ads (July last year) was for rival, Pepsi.

The film is expected to launch in October. It’s the story of a father-daughter relationship mixed in with work-life balance. When the hard-working dad forgets to post his daughter’s letter to Santa, he decides to deliver it by hand – all the way to the North Pole. The Coca-Cola truck, then plays its part, delivering dad home just in time to spend Christmas with his daughter.
Meanwhile, Waititi has recently announced that he is making two Roald Dahl books into films for Netflix and directing the new Star Wars movie.
