The lockdowns throughout the world had a lot of side effects. Some were wonderful. Carbon emissions lowered. Plants and animals began to regain their rightful places in the world. Crimes (except for domestic violence) reduced. People had time to think, to appreciate, to applaud those who deserve it.
Lockdowns have begun to be relaxed around several countries such as Italy, Spain, South Africa, Australia and some places in the US. Extinction Rebellion Global doesn’t want the world to forget that an emergency still exists. It wants the world to keep its eyes open and feel #LoveAndRageinTimesofCorona.
The campaign is being led by three films. The first, #NoGoingBack, has been produced and directed by XR Argentina. It is built around the experience shared by the vast majority in these past few months, looking back, looking around us and looking to the future. The film warns the world against complacency and slipping back into old habits, which it turns out that no one was fond of.
“Reinvention and resilience became words to live by for members of the international movement. Before looking back, one truth must be assumed by all those who stayed at home for the sake of vulnerable members of society and the health service: staying at home does not make you a hero. What comes next, will,” Extinction Rebellion noted.
“Everyone can be a hero. Stop governments from going back to business as usual, help support global voices in the times of Corona. The emergency began long before COVID19, the virus proved society could mobilise and there’s #NoGoingBack.”
Proceeds from XR Global Support’s new COVID-19 crowdfund campaign will allow it to distribute emergency grant funding to XR groups around the world as they provide either immediate, life-saving COVID-19 relief work or do necessary regrouping in light of the new normal to ensure that they and their communities remain resilient and able to continue demanding climate and ecological justice.

Even with the emission falls due to lockdown, the world needs another 35% fall per year. Meanwhile, governments around the world are planning to bail out climate-destroying industries and the banks that fund them. Extinction Rebellion is working in 65 countries to supporting communities with urgent COVID-19 relief work and demand a different future – one that supports our people and planet. It needs the world’s help to help the world. The campaign is asking for donations.
