Way back in April, Clemenger Melbourne devised a game for NAB Footify, called Fanshake.
This is its catchcry: Put your pride on the line for a chance chance to win the ultimate 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final experience. These are its rules: Chose a rival, set a pledge that depends on your team beating his/her team, Fanshake on it, and do something for the greater good of AFL.
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne creative director, Rohan Lancaster, explained, “The idea that NAB can use its sponsorship to grow the game it’s so dedicated to is admirable. This campaign was designed to harness the passion of footy fanatics Australia-wide and give the winners something else to gloat about after a game. It’s a perfect finish to a great day at the footy. And a great way for NAB to encourage more footy fans to get out there and contribute to the game they love.”
So now it’s August. AFL teams have won…and lost…games. Fans have won and lost Fanshakes. So the campaign has reached the fun part. NAB Footify fans and sporting personalities throughout Australia are having to make good on their pledges. Billy Brownless, Jude Bolton, Luke Ball and Mark Beretta have already done so.
Footy followers are fronting up to Auskick sessions to do their bit for the game.
On September 18, the best Fanshake will win the ultimate 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final experience for two, that includes flights and two night’s accommodation in Melbourne, seats at the Grand Final Eve Lunch, tickets to the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final and an on-ground experience on the hallowed turf before the first bounce.
Tim Clarke, NAB’s head of sponsorship commented, “Fanshake is tapping into the existing rivalry between fans but harnessing it for the greater good of the game. It’s this sentiment that underpins our decade long partnership with the AFL. It’s been fantastic to see fans challenging fellow supporters and particularly pleasing that familiar faces in the footy world have been willing to put their loyalty on the line and deliver on their promise to do something positive for football.
“One week we had Lenny Hayes painting faces of footy goers at Etihad Stadium, the next we had Mark Bickley cutting up oranges for Gavin Wanganeen’s son’s Under 12 footy team in Walkerville – it’s been overwhelmingly positive and reached all corners of the country.”
