It has football players (pretty much the whole FC Barcelona team), boys being boys and a beach Boys song. The ad is called FCB holiday, where FCB doesn’t stand for Foote Cone & Belding but FC Barcelona. It’s an ad for Qatar Airways.
The boys (or to be precise: Lionel Messi, Neymar, Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta and Luis Suárez) are not being bad but playful, in playgrounds like the Maldives, Dallas, Paris and Seoul.
In fact, “we” see Neyamr head-juggling some sun cream, Luis Suarez’ horse kicking a goal and Lionel Messi demonstrating football meets martial arts…
…with the Beach Boys’ song, I Get Around, amping up the mood.
This Qatar Airways ad has viral video in its DNA and putting bums on (airline) seats in its M.O. As did its predecessor, also by 180 Amsterdam.
This is the second 180 Amsterdam ad to put to good use the three year partnership between Qatar and FC Barcelona. The Land of FCB made its debut in 2013.
The new ad is screening it in three different languages: English, Arabic and Catalan. The global campaign includes TV, digital and print elements.
In the year and a half since the partnership took effect, Qatar Airways has launched two FC Barcelona campaigns, officially sponsored the FC Barcelona Asia tour, introduced the FC Barcelona custom-designed Boeing 777 and launched special tour and match packages for fans looking to visit Barcelona through the Qatar Airways Holidays Division.
The airline also recently launched the Join The Club social media contest to celebrate the first anniversary of the partnership. Millions of fans were given the opportunity to win prizes, including Qatar Airways flights to attend an FC Barcelona match in Barcelona.
