The 2017 Kinsale Shark Awards is open for entries. Film, Music Video, Print and Design can all be entered via the website until the deadline on Wednesday September 6.
This year, there are two new initiatives:
The Creative Bravery Award (in association with Creative Social) applauds work which has the courage to genuinely push the boundaries, regardless of the risk or consequences. Work which only the bravest clients would sign off and which represented a genuine leap of faith.
The Best ‘New’ Category is an expansion of the hugely popular Best New Director. The category now includes DOPs and editors.
This year’s festival runs from Thursday, September 21 to Saturday, September 23 in Kinsale Ireland with headliners, Rosie Arnold, creative partner and head of art at AMV BBDO; Andy Sandoz ex-ECD of Havas London and 2016 president of D&AD; and ex-crime boss, King Tone (aka, Antonio Fernandez).
Fernandez was once the head of America’s largest street gang, The Latin Kings and in 1999, was sentenced to 12 to 15 years for conspiring to sell narcotics. He subsequently transformed his organised crime syndicate into a political movement, fighting for social justice on behalf of a suppressed Latin American community and is the main figure in the HBO documentary, Latin Kings: A Street Gang story, which was released in 2007.
Following last year’s successful collaboration, the festival’s speaking programme is curated by Creative Social, the agency that accelerates creative thinking for agencies and brands.
Aisling White, who came on board as Festival Director earlier this year, commented, “Kinsale is a small, intimate Festival with a personal approach to speaking to, and engaging with, the creative community. We are a new, management team here at the Kinsale Shark Awards and this year have taken a fresher outlook to running our most successful event ever.”
