Gigil really is a creative phenomenon, an agency that creates bizarre (and even unfathomable) ads that tend to be mixed with a dash of Filippino culture (past, trending and in this case, mythological) and very weird humour. Ads go viral and collect thousands of comments [read: a lot of attention]. The agency’s newest commercial, for Mega Tuna, amassed more than 5 million views in a week. It’s Gigil’s second bizarre ad for the brand.
The 90-second spot features a manananggal, a mythological vampire-like Filippino creature who cuts her body in half to fly in search of victims. This time, though, the two halves battle over a dish of tuna. The idea is that the tuna is so good it induces envy. The tagline is in English (probably roughly, online translations being what they are), “they will be jealous of the deliciousness”.

The first Gigil commercial for mega Tuna features a gecko. Don’t be fooled by the first few seconds of advertising normalcy. The normalcy doesn’t last.
