A tech ad like no other. That’s not the only asset that Leo Burnett Chicago has given Samsung’s Gear VR (and the just released Samsung Galaxy S8). It’s feel good, inspirational – and it features a really cute animal. That’s the trifecta. So the song used to underline its story, Elton John’s Rocket Man, gets to be an emotive bonus.
It’s the story of an ostrich who puts his head into a Samsung VR headset, gets the experience of being up among the clouds and becomes determined to fly.
Leo B has captured the thrill of VR – the feeling that you can. And that’s underlined by its closing titles, “We make what can’t be made/ So you can do what can’t be done.”
It’s a clever idea to link the phone to its VR asset, and even more clever, given that ever smarter smartphones are now everyday tools, to sell the dream of what the S8 can do.
