Last year’s Choose Your Winter for Nike Hyperwarm was an ad with humour and Chris O’Dowd. It was very un-Nike, which made it interesting.
This year’s Nike Hyperwarm ad is a return to the sports advertising genre. Sure, there’s a formula to that. And yes, that gets boring. Swap the logo at at the end and sports ads are interchangeable. But Nike’s Hyperwarm 2015 has humour, a little insanity (used to underline the strength of its 20 athletes)…and a sense of fun.
The two minute ad is called Snow Day. A more apt title would be Snow Day!!!!
Wieden + Kennedy convinced New England Patriots star, Rob Gronkowski, and 19 other athletes to brave a snow shower for an impromptu football game. The message, that Hyperwarm keeps you warm enough to workout through winter, is communicated. No question.
The ad made its on air debut during a Patriots-Dolphins game. (Dolphins defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh, is the first person Gronkowski encounters in the film).
The other US athletes are Odell Beckham Jr., Le’Veon Bell, Eugenie Bouchard, Antonio Brown, Elena Delle Donne, Marlen Esparza, Paula Findlay, Lauren Fisher, Paul George, A.J. Green, Draymond Green, Luke Kuechly, Sydney Leroux, Carli Lloyd, Marcus Mariota, LeSean McCoy, Ben Roethlisberger, Eric Weddle and Steven Stamkos.
