Photoplay’s Michael Gupta has given for Australian band, Winter Swim, a beautiful glimpse of relationship in his music video for new release, Exchange.
Gupta chose 35mm film to give the video warm, cinematic undertones that complement the storyline of intertwined connections between real people and the quiet relationships they hold with the everyday spaces they share together. You might even find yourself identifying with its mood. You will doubtless be captured by it.
[Aussies, did you notice familiar faces in the vid?]

The band handed over full creative licence to Gupta to tell a follow up story of vulnerability and human connection in a film that supports the gently nostalgic tempo of the track.

Gupta commenrted, “For my latest collaboration with Winter Swim I was interested in creating something stripped back, focusing on intimate, honest portraits of people. The simplicity and vulnerability of it was something I connected with deeply. I’m endlessly fascinated by faces and the way we hold stories in our bodies. For me, there’s something so human in simply looking at someone who is willing to look back at you.”
Exchange is Winter Swim’s third track release following on from the band’s work with Gupta on emotionally charged Late for Love and Easy, a Ciclope award-winning cinematic piece exploring a complicated, co-dependent family relationship.
Photoplay executive producer, Oliver Lawrance, noted, “Michael Gupta always presents character portraits and perspectives in ways I haven’t seen and that’s why his cinematic approach is so visually enthralling.”
