When Will Ferrell picked a fight with the entire country of Norway, in his Super Bowl ad for GM, he clearly did not anticipate a response from the Viking among Vikings, proud Norwegian and Game of Thrones star, Kristoffer Hivju. Despite the ferocious reputation that Vikings have held for centuries, this one isn’t a savage. In fact, he’s rather funny.
Pol creative, Robert Radoli, explained, “The GM videos show Ferrell holding a grudge against Norway for reasons not made entirely clear. However, the ad seems poised to play off the fact that in Norway, unlike the US, electric vehicles command a major market share – which could be the source of Ferrell’s jealousy. Norway last year became the first country in the world where the sale of electric cars has overtaken those powered by petrol, diesel and hybrid engines and the number one model in the market was the fully electric Audi e-tron.
“Norway is a peace-loving nation, but we strongly felt that the GM hate campaign deserved a swift response served, of course, with a touch of humour. GM and the US obviously draws inspiration from Norway and the enormous shift in the Norwegian car market from fossil fueled to electric. Audi Norway’s advice to GM and Will Ferrell is pure and simple – Don´t hate. Imitate.”
Well played Pol. Well played Audi.
Note: The Audi e-tron co-stars in Hivju’s response to Ferrell and GM.
