A dance film featuring a sneaker? It’s a bold idea and a striking film for Alexander McQueen’s Sprint Runner shoe, directed by awarded director and visual artist, Sophie Muller from Prettybird. A film that blends the sensuality of dance and the athleticism of sport with a high fashion edge.
The film, Sprint Trainer, makes abundant use of the fiercely beautiful physicality of singer, songwriter and renowned dancer, Mettenarrative, and aims to express the idea of empowerment through clothing.
The Alexander McQueen Sprint Runner, an updated and streamlined variation of a classic running sneaker, made its first appearance on the women’s Spring/ Summer 2022 runway – reflecting, and no doubt enhancing, the trend of teaming sneakers with high fashion clothes. In the film, the all-white version of the shoe is teamed with a seductive Alexander McQueen corset dress.
Mettenarrative first attracted attention when she toured with Pharrell Williams and came into prominence in the music video for Lemon by N.E.R.D., featuring Rihanna. She has appeared as an actress in Hustlers and in The Old Guard, and throughout the pandemic focused her talents on song writing.
Sprint Trainer is the 2nd out of 3 films for Alexander McQueen accessories directed by Sophie Muller and commissioned by Alexander McQueen creative director, Sarah Burton. It was shot at Wapping Power Station, and Muller worked closely with Mettenarrative, using her prowess as a skilled performer to inspire the creative around the film.
