Should’ve gone to Specsavers is in its 15th year. The campaign has been so successful that The British optical retail chain applied to trademark should’ve and should’ve to protect its catchphrase last year, and won the right in August.
The 2008 ad, Collie Wobble, won a D&AD Wood Pencil in TV & Cinema Crafts in 2009.
The ad with John Cleese that launched during the holiday period 2015-6 has proven to be one of the most popular. It was Adwatch’s second best-liked TV commercial of 2016.
The new ad, created in-house by Specsavers Creative and directed by Daniel Kleinman through Rattling Stick, was shot in Provence, France. Its cinematic style is a return to form. And the ad is a reunion of Specsavers and Kleinman, who directed the 2012 ad that starred Gordon Ramsay. It’s running in 60, 40 and 30 second versions on cinema and TV (in the UK for now).
