According to a government study in October last year, almost 1 in 3 survey participants signed up for a new online betting account during COVID-19, and 1 in 20 started gambling online. They also gambled more often during COVID-19. The proportion who gambled 4 or more times a week increased from 23% to 32%. Find the study here.
As an industry, online gambling is ferociously competitive. Sportsbet is one of the competitors. It is, however, doing something to make sure that it stands for safe betting. It has released a campaign that encourages all punters to set deposit limits across all of their online betting accounts and use safer gambling tools.
The campaign, Take a sec before you bet, relies on the same association with mates culture that is used by many online betting agencies in their advertising to promote betting – a clever move.
The full campaign covers TV, radio, press, outdoor billboards, broadcast integrations, digital video & display and will be the primary focus of Sportsbet’s media investment, the company said in its statement.
“We have a vital role in the promotion of safer gambling and a responsibility to use our profile to send the message; no matter who you bet with, we want you to do so in a way that is safe and responsible. And setting a deposit limit is a proactive way to help keep your betting in check,” stated Sportsbet chief executive officer, Barni Evans.
