Convention be damned. Sunday Gravy is running a TV ad for itself.
The independent Australian agency ran its own TV ad across the Seven Network during Christmas programming and the Boxing Day Test, some of the most watched moments on the holiday calendar.
It’s not a sophisticated ad. It’s down-to-earth with a sprinkling of absurdity. The “endorsement” ad is set in an Aussie pub and opens with something rarely said out loud in advertising – people don’t like ads. Real people speak plainly about their dislike for the category. The twist comes at the end when they admit there’s one exception, anything made by Sunday Gravy.
“We spend most of our time helping brands earn attention,” stated Sarah Raine, managing director at Sunday Gravy. “This was just us applying the same thinking to ourselves, and a reminder that advertising works best when it understands how people actually feel about it.”
