Expensify wins most people with its line, You weren’t born to do expenses. The other people are accountants. Its an app for expense management, receipt scanning and business travel.
It’s making its Super Bowl debut this year, with a commercial by JohnXHannes New York, directed by Andreas Nilsson and featuring rapper, 2 Chainz and actor, Adam Scott.
The “teaser”, if you can call a 3.51 minute ad a teaser, was a music video called Expensify This, which spelled out the Expensify process – and gave you the chance to try it out to win prizes. As billed, it was the first music video you could “expense” – throughout the video there are receipts shown for various items. Viewers can photograph and upload them into the Expensify app for a chance to win cash or the actual items themselves – ice-sculptured sports car, an Audi R8 and a diamond-encrusted football.
The video achieved more than 2 million views on YouTube alone in the five days from January 25.
Now JohnXHannes has released both the 30-second Super Bowl ad and its full 60-second version. The 60-second ad is running online only.
The 30-second spot is the first expense-able Super Bowl ad. Viewers can take a photo of 2 Chainz’s digital receipt for the ice car in the music video and enter for a chance to win its equivalent cash value (more than US$200,000).
The ad will air during the second quarter of the game.
