Kanye West has made it to the Super Bowl at last. How could anyone hold a celebrity event and not invite him? McDonald and Wieden + Kennedy have. West’s passion for McDonald’s is almost as well documented as are his bizarre outbursts. The commercial plays on the “universal fab truth” that sometimes you can’t decide what to order. It’s called, Can I get uhhhhhhhhh, and it’s a montage of Can I get uhhhhhhhhh moments, culminating in West’s.
Other celebrities include 23XI NASCAR driver, Bubba Wallace; FIFA Twitch super-celeb, Edwin Castro; and McDonald’s character, Grimace.
McDonald’s has run a pregame Super Bowl spot every year for fifteen years. The idea for Can I get uhhhhhhhhh seems to have originated in a tweet sent in 2020. Last Monday the campaign began in earnest when McDonald’s tweeted, “Make the comment section sound like a car full of people ordering McDonald’s.” And fans responded by tweeting, “Can I get uhhhhhhh …?” followed by their orders. The fast food chain also produced the obligatory Super Bowl teasers and received the anticipated social media speculation.
