Apple’s seventh Chinese New Year Shot on iPhone sends a message not just for a new year, not just for China – for every young person throughout the world. Little Garlic may get the benefit over its predecessors of more advanced iPhone features, but it also benefits from the superb storytelling by TBWA\Media Arts Shanghai and director, Marc Webb.
The film welcomes the Year of the Dragon by telling the story of a young girl battling with her insecurities and how she is able to overcome them on her own. Little Garlic delivers a timely message addressing the insecurities felt by Gen Z.
TBWA\Media Arts Shanghai has brought together a top tier team of movie industry professionals to tell Little Garlic’s story though the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The collective experience of director, Marc Webb [The Amazing Spider-Man]; Chinese star, Fan Wei; and acclaimed writer, Pan Yiran, elevate the production, while key iPhone 15 Pro Max features, including 5x optical zoom, Action mode, and Cinematic mode, thread the theme of insecurity through film in the hands of emerging talents such as director of photography, Cecile Zhang; and art director, Li Anran.
In The Amazing Spider-Man, Marc Webb, tells another coming of age story, this one of a young protagonist learning how to come to grips with the weight of super powers. Pan Yiran and Fan Wei have previously worked together on the hit TV drama, The Long Season. Yiran was chosen for her ability to write with colour and complexity, to portray the film’s youth insight in a way that is both fantastic and relatable for our audiences. Fan Wei has reached levels of stardom and recognition in China for his roles as imperfect yet endearing characters on TV.
Accompanying the film is a behind-the-scenes video featuring cast and crew to show how the film was made with iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The film will appear on broadcast, digital, social media.
