Gecko or Caveman? The return of Geico’s Caveman may have been a brief interlude after all. The brand’s latest commercial by The Martin Agency shows him being overshadowed by the gecko and may well be an epic Super Bowl teaser. He has been cajoled into participating in a documentary that he thinks is about him:
The Cavemen was introduced first in 2004. The idea was that Geico insurance is So easy, a caveman can do it. He took over from the gecko, who was introduced in 1999 as a mnemonic for the brand’s name as well as humanising the company. His job was to embed the idea that I am a gecko, not GEICO. Please stop calling me.
The Caveman returned in December last year. He was getting nightmares about his famous line after being asked to participate in the Geico documentary.
It turns out that 2-minute ad was also an epic teaser – for the new 2-minute commercial that may be an epic teaser. And the gecko, nearly twenty-five years old, has been given a humorous refresh.
