Cut-through in telco advertising. The usual tactic is to blast audiences with noise. Verizon has done something entirely different. It is blasting its audience with seduction. Verizon is capturing attention with the sex appeal of 28 year-old Stephen Kalyn, who stars as Dean in Prime Video’s college soap, Off Campus.

The campaign, Simplicity is Sexy, features Kalyn looking very much like a classic Calvin Klein model, with INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart underscoring. The commercial’s pared down styling underlines the message, the launch of Verizon’s Simplicity plan. The film was directed by Bardia Zeinali, who also directed Calvin Klein’s Summer 2020, Deal With It campaign, featuring Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner.
It was created in-house at Verizon, with production by Ogilvy and Anonymous Content.
The new commercial follows a different, equally outside-the-wall (much less simple) approach last week – an Austin Powers inspired spot starring Mike Myers and directed by Jay Roach.
