Of course you do. The 2015 D&AD Professional Awards are open for entries.
So…it’s that time again. Time to wonder if your work is good enough to win a Yellow Pencil? And you know what? An In-Book will do. That’s equivalent to a couple of rungs up the ladder.
Oh dear, your heart just started beating faster…you’re having Black thoughts, aren’t you? No pressure, but Mescall has been made global executive creative director McCann Worldgroup and now works from New York.
Which means that this will be good news:
Firstly, the eligibility period has grown from 12 to 14 months. The deadline to enter is 18 February 2015. Commercial work released between 1 January 2014 and 28 February 2015 will be eligible.
Secondly, there are 16 new ways to win a Pencil – or in D&AD-speak 16 new sub-categories.
D&AD has created a new jury and category for Branded Film Content & Entertainment. TV, film, online and documentaries will be recognised at next year’s awards, in addition to a sub-category for Tactical Branded Film Content & Entertainment.
White Pencil showed its might this year. It produced two Black Pencils. So it is expanding from two to five sub-categories. It will now distinguish between work for NGOs and brands, across both advertising & marketing communications and design. And White Pencil gains Service Innovation, to recognise service products that seek to build brands and businesses by doing good.
Innovation’s three new categories across digital and integrated juries gave this category the opportunity to produce two Black Pencils, one of which came home to Aus (Thank you, Finch, Havas, Reactive & The Red Agency). So Innovation sub-categories have been added to Packaging Design, Product Design and Radio Advertising. Innovation in media is also being recognised through the revamped Integrated & Innovative Media jury.
TV & Cinema Advertising is being renamed Film Advertising. It also gets a new Tactical sub-category that recognises real-time, rapid reactions to breaking news. New sub-category, Casting for Film Advertising, has been added to Film Advertising Crafts.
The category, Music Videos – reintroduced this year – was a hit. So, it gains Direction and Production Design for Music Videos, giving it seven sub-categories.
Tim Lindsay, chief executive officer of D&AD commented, “There were two standout themes at last year’s awards: innovation and creativity for good. Across the board we saw some exceptional demonstrations of the power of creativity to push boundaries through ideas that fundamentally change people’s behaviours for the better.
“In 2014, we saw White Pencil winners also awarded the ultimate accolade of a Black Pencil for the first time, but we don’t want to stop there. We want to see even more inspirational and innovative ideas that raise the bar even higher. In fact, one challenge I’d like to set is to see White Pencil winning work from brands, as well as NGOs and charities. Show us just how influential creativity can be by proving how you can do well by doing good, too.”
