Everyone loves an underdog story. This one is so heart-warming you forgive it for being a showcase of Apple products and their capabilities, and there are plenty of them – iPhone, iPad Pro, iMac, MacBook Pro, Apple Watch, Apple Pencil, Siri, FaceTime, AirDrop, Keynote and Microsoft Excel.
The film belongs in the same Apple collection as Misunderstood from 2013, minus the schmaltz. It’s the story of a group of workers who seize the opportunity to present a new idea to the big boss. And it’s an award-worthy office sitcom, edited perfectly into three minutes in order to hold attention and keep viewers smiling throughout. Feel good sells. Human humour sells even more effectively. The ad even leaves with a cliffhanger to keep it inside people’s heads. We’ll never know if the underdogs sold their idea and got the reward they were after. But we can wonder.
That new idea also happens to be a real Apple product – a circular pizza box for which Apple has the patent and which is used in the company’s Caffè Macs cafeterias.
The ad was directed by Aussie ex-pat, Mark Molloy, and produced by Smuggler.
