Skipping class isn’t the most daring thing a student can do. Everyone has done that at least once in their lifetime.
But a hotel that rewards students for skipping class?
That’s daring. It’s provocative. It’s rebellious. And, in case you don’t remember being a student yourself, those three attributes are applauded by students.
Abbotts Hotel Waterloo bills itself as the hotel brave enough to do anything. For two weeks, it’s showing that it is.
From August 29, any student who can prove that he or she has cut class to be there, will be entitled to the hotel’s $10 Ferris Bueller Beer & Burger Deal.
Of course they also have to be over 18.
The idea came to Bill Smith, publican at Abbotts Hotel, when a group of students came into the hotel and ordered a round of beers. They could later be overhead cheering to a class well skipped.
“We’ve all missed a class, lecture or tutorial in our lifetime – I’m just offering students an incentive to spend their newly found free time drinking beer and eating great food at my pub while they do it,” Bill explained.
“If you’ve been given an early mark, your tutor is sick or you can watch the lecture at home, then this deal is for you.”
If you happen to come in and you’re not skipping class, the Abbott’s Burger and Tooths Pale Ale will cost you (just) $5 more.
