Funny cat video meets 80s throwback. Expect adam&eve/DDB’s newest ad for Mars’ Temptations cat treats to go viral.
It’s a remade music video, directed by Ninian Duff, for Simple Minds’ 1985 hit, Don’t You (Forget About Me) – faithful to its era with VHS quality production, glitzy outfits and big hair.
Except for the 21st century cats who perform the song, act in the video and have rewritten the lyrics somewhat to underline the story’s plot – cat is disgruntled because owner buys herself an array of treats and cat thinks there is no treat for him.
adam&eve/DDB executive creative director, Richard Brim, noted, “Cat videos are brilliant fun, and millions of people watch them every day. In order to reach that audience, we made a music video starring the Electric Furs, with one simple message—reminding cat owners to Treat Them Too.”
“With only half of cat owners treating their cats, the Temptations brand always looks for fun, creative ways to bring attention to the cat treating category,” explained Arren Beach, Temptations brand manager. “The Treat Them Too campaign uses entertaining digital content – like this music video – to showcase Temptations treats and encourage cat owners to treat their cats when they treat themselves.”
The full version is running on the Temptations Facebook page and YouTube.
There’s a 30 second version for television.
Shorter gifs will appear across social channels, with supporting content on BuzzFeed and Snapchat Discovery.
